Human overconsumption of plastic has overwhelming implications on environmental stability. Through the Recycled Warriors Project, I aim to address the infiltration of plastic products into high mass consumption and present a critique of the emergent throw-away culture that such consumption has enabled. The straws were collected from a local restaurant, where hundreds of these single-use plastic straws were used in a single day. The bags and bottles utilized were collected from college students at Appalachian State. In the act of upcycling materials such as plastic bags, bottles, and straws, I am creating a warrior’s suit that, when worn, empowers my inner environmental activist. By repurposing such detrimental and pervasive materials, I am reclaiming their impact as my own tools for social and environmental harmony.
